The Tongue/Life, Good, Blessing Or Death, Evil, Cursing

The tongue is a little member of our body, but boasts great things; how great a little matter can be made to explode and spread through the wrong use of the tongue. Better yet, the tongue can be a source of life and hope to those who are without hope. (James 3:5; Proverbs 15:4)
The tongue is described as a fire, a world of iniquity, it defiles the whole body, it points the life in the direction it wants to go, and its source is hell. (James 3:5; James 3:6)
In going through the scriptures about the tongue, and the importance of what we allow out of our mouths, death and life truly are in the power of the tongue. We get to choose what kind of life we live through the words we permit to come out of our mouths. The mouth reveals what’s in our hearts because when the trials of life get heated, and our buttons get pushed, we are going to be faced with two options, the Word of God, or the voice that tries to shout louder than the Word of God. (Proverbs 18:21; Luke 6:45)
The analogies in James 3 about the tongue are excellent in describing how, if the tongue can be controlled, then the course in life can be pointed in the right direction. There are the bits that are placed in horses mouths. The rider controlling the bridle has the power to turn the whole body of that horse in the direction he wants it to go. The change is quick, unlike the rudder of a huge ship which James says is “turned about by a very small rudder.” The change in course may not be evident to those on the ship, but to the man who has the helm, he is confident that the ship is indeed changing direction. (James 3:3, 4)
In like matter, when we present our bodies a living sacrifice, yielding ourselves to God, “as those that are alive to God, and our members as instruments of righteousness to God,” then that little member called the tongue will begin to come into subjection to the Holy Spirit. (Romans 12:1; Romans 6:13)
I love the scripture in Luke 6:45, “a good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good’ (life, good and blessing). An evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil (death, evil and cursing)”, “for of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Deuteronomy 30:19) I like to look at the good man as being the Father, who out of the good treasure of His heart gave us Jesus and all the benefits of what He accomplished.
There is a direct connection between the heart and the tongue. I am beginning to see there is so much more to understanding the link between our words, the heart, the mouth and the tongue. It is no wonder that the love God has for us is spelled out in His love letter to us, His words that come out of the good treasure of His heart. “I want you to live! I want you to prosper! I want you protected! I want you to experience abundance and be fruitful and your fruit to remain! Find out what I have to say about what life is all about, and don’t allow any filthy communication to come out of your mouth. It only brings death, evil and cursing. It’s the thief who comes to steal and to kill and to destroy. Be aware, take heed to your words, for if they speak death, evil and cursing, that is what you will experience. Did I not say, ‘according to your faith be it unto you?’ I have come that you might have life and that more abundant. “Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29,30)
There are horror stories of people who have experienced the fruit of the tongue that is allowed to roam to and fro, seeking whom it may devour, without thought of restraint. Words are spoken, accusations made, families torn apart, lives destroyed because of the wrong use of the tongue
Choose life, blessing and good. Ask the Lord what words your tongue is releasing,
