Strange relationship

Posted by 5402Wilson, 15 August 2013 · 1,615 views

My mother in law and I always had a strange relationship. It probably comes in part from the fact that her son, my husband, is younger than me. I would also have to guess that fact that I have my college degree and she didn't may have been part of it too.

I used to "mother" my mother in law.

The age difference between my mother in law and me was suc...

Cats don't count

After someone dies you can remember the strangest things.
The Tuesday that my grandmother in law died my husband found one of his mother's cats dead in her garage.  If you knew my husbands relationship with cats you would understand why my mother in law first accused him of it!
Anyway, I was talking to her and mentioned that everyone sa...

She didn't loose me

Thursday we found ourselves at the funeral home planning a very unexpected funeral.  After we had picked everything out and discussed everything we knew to discuss things wound down.  I excused myself to go to the bathroom.  And in there God and I had a very important talk.
With tears streaming down my face I asked him why K had to l...

A rough 8 days

Posted by 5402Wilson, 25 July 2013 · 589 views

I know there are people out there who can top our 8 days in fewer days.  I'm not trying to say that we are the only ones who have gone through something traumatic, but the 8 days between July 12th and July 20th have left our family reeling.
On July 12th, my mother in law took her parents, 87 and 91 out of the nursing home to run some errands....

Are monsters real?

Posted by 5402Wilson, 17 December 2012 · 724 views

Driving home tonight my daughter asked me, "Are monsters real?"

I had to think about my answer.

Are monsters real?

Yes, sweetheart, a man just shot up an elementary school. He killed 20 kids a grade younger than you. Monsters are real.

Are monsters real?

Yes, people touch children in places they shouldn't.

Are monsters real?

Yes, people...

After the fire

Posted by 5402Wilson, 27 August 2012 · 629 views

During this drought we have had a couple of fires near our home. The first one was about 7 or 8 miles away. (I'm guessing.) The second one was within a mile of our home.

When it first happened you would drive by and smell the destruction that hung in the air. The fire was still at work on the trees even though the flames were gone. The first day...

"Jesus will tell me"

Kathryn, our first grade daughter, and her daddy are on a "Daddy Daughter Date" tonight. I was talking to her about that before he got home from work. I asked her about what she was looking for in a husband. She shrugged. I asked her "So, how will you know when you meet him?"

I loved her answer. Kathryn didn't miss a beat. She...

The Journey Home

Posted by 5402Wilson, 14 January 2011 · 569 views

Our Journey Home to heaven doesn't always turn out the way that we expect. Sometimes it turns out just a little sweeter.

Two days after Christmas my 91 year old grandmother went home. Now the "plan" was that the hospice nurse would be there, let my mom and uncle know that it was close, they would both drop what they were doing, and go to be...

The Sweetest Smile

Posted by 5402Wilson, 06 December 2010 · 633 views

Over Thanksgiving we went and saw my grandmother. She's 91 and has dementia. She doesn't do a lot of communicating, but she and her great granddaughter seem to have found a way to communicate without saying a word.

They smile at each other. That's it. Kathryn holds her great gigi's hand. She gets the sweetest smile on her face and my...

A little child shall lead them...

Kathryn is amazing. I'm not just saying this because I'm her mother. (Although I'm sure that doesn't hurt. )

Our church started small groups last night. Chris was busy, so Kathryn and I went by ourselves. Kathryn was the youngest one there by... oh, 20 or so years! She's not good about talking around people she doesn't...
